    1. Good point, David. I also noticed I had forgotten ADSB#, so I’ve updated the list again and broken the apps down by category. Thanks for your input!

  1. Please add Mac OS X compatibility to Dump1090, it compiles as directed with a simple Make command.
Also note there is now a fork of Antirez’s version by MalcolmRob with added features, see Antirez’s readme.

    1. Thanks for pointing that out. I’ve added a link to an alternate source of operator logos and country flags, as well as outline and waypoint files on Bones Aviation Page.

  2. I am trying to install my zadig driver on windows 7 os for my 1090mhz ads-b dongle and windows security will not let me install this driver. I click on “install this driver software anyway” and the next box comes up and says “driver installation failed” What can be done? Thank you Greg Ellifson

    1. When you run the Zadig installer, are you running it as an administrator? You may need to right-click on the installer and select “Run as Administrator” from the contextual menu.

  3. Anyone running dump1090 should take a look at (and consider feeding) ADSbexchange.com. Military and blocked aircraft are not filtered, so you see everything…

  4. Hi,

I’ve ordered a LimeSDR and hope to use it to learn all things aviation! So many standards.. ads-b, ads-c, acars, hfdl, fans-1a, etc, etc!

But do I understand correctly, that jetvision’s rtl1090 is currently the most popular, but ModeSDeco might be the most flexible option going forward?

In terms of GUI, the ADSB Scope looked a bit primitive.. plane plotter looked better but it’s not free, would you say that Virtual Radar Server and Globe-S are the best looking , free, and both compatible with ModeSDeco?

Also, is there any advantage to using a website feeder? The interface looks nice, but not sure why flightaware for example, would want the airplane data I see, doesn’t it already have that information and much more?

    Cheers!
    Ben

  5. There hasn’t been any development on RTL1090 for a couple of years now. I would say it has been surpassed by dump1090 and modesdeco2 in terms of functionality and ADS-B/mlat processing. In terms of GUI, every virtual radar application is compatible with modesdeco2. I personally use both BaseStation (free) and Virtual Radar Server (free) on a 24/7 basis, but have ADSBScope, Globe-S, and PlanePlotter setup and occasionally run them on an ad-hoc basis. Website feeders (FR24, PlaneFinder, Radarbox24, FlightAware, etc) all offer you some benefits in exchange for the data. If you’re interested in alerts, FR24 and FA offer the best bang for your buck.
